| SOAR Schools August Newsletter The new school year has begun! In this moment following the end of one year and the beginning of the next it is a great time to reflect on what we have accomplished as well as where we are headed. SOAR@GVR had a stellar first year. Click here to see our brand new Annual Report. In it you will learn how SOAR outperformed similar schools by 25 percentage points in reading results and earned high praise from the external objective reviewers who visited the school twice during the year. SOAR is now poised to have an even larger impact on the Far Northeast Denver community. SOAR@GVR has grown by one grade level and SOAR@Oakland opened on August 18 as the only charter school in Denver that is Turnaround Restart of an existing school. The two schools will serve close to 500 students this year. Within three years this number will be closer to 1000. To celebrate the successful completion of SOAR@GVR’s first year and the launch of SOAR@Oakland, the SOAR community hosted its first annual Celebration Event on August 10. Over 100 people attended including Mayor Michael Hancock. The header above features several pictures from the event. As part of our transition to a multi-school organization, we have upgraded and updated our website. Click here to check it out. You can learn about SOAR’s staff (click here for SOAR@Oakland staff and here for SOAR@GVR staff). And, you can read our latest press release regarding a large grant received from the Colorado Health Foundation that will allow SOAR to continue to be a leader in health and wellness integration. We wish everyone a great start to the 2011-2012 school year and look forward to sending out the September newsletter filled with more exciting updates and pictures.” |
